সাদা রঙের একতলা দালান। চারদিকে সুপারিগাছের সারি। ভেতরের উঠোনে একটি কুয়া। কুয়ার চারপাশ বাঁধানো। বাড়ির ডানদিকে প্রাচীন কয়েকটা কাঁঠালগাছ। কাঁঠালগাছের পাতায় আলো-আঁধারের খেলা। কুয়ার ভেতর উকি মারছে নীল আকাশ। একটু দূরে দুটো আতাফল গাছ। সোনালি রঙের আতাফলে পুরো গাছ সোনালি হয়ে আছে। পাকা আতার লোভে ভিড় করেছে। রাজ্যের পাখি। তাদের সঙ্গে ঝগড়া বেধে গেছে কাকদের। কান পাতা দায়। এমন একটা রহস্যময় পরিবেশে আমার শৈশবের শুরু। শুরুটা খুব খারাপ না। তবু শৈশবের কথা মনে হলেই প্রথমে কিছু দুঃখময় স্মৃতি ভিড় করে। কিছুতেই তাদের তাড়াতে পারি না। সেগুলো দিয়েই শুরু করি।
